What is IPL Therapy aka Photofacial?

IPL or Intense pules light therapy, aka Photofacial is a light base treatment to help improve uneven skin tone and texture with little to no downtime or surgery. IPL Photofacial works to break up red and brown treatment at Saba Med Spa can remove unwanted brown spots, blood vessels, minimize pore size, create collagen, and even help with dry eyes.

What are common side effects IPL Photofacial?

The common side effect from IPL Photofacial can include:


  • Sunburn sensation
  • Mild to moderate swelling
  • Dark spots will appear darker at first
  • Bruising is always possible
  • Mild crusting or flakiness
  • Blemishes - rare but we like to inform you
  • Peppering - this is a good thing


It is unlikely that you will experience all of these at the same time but "peppering" is a good thing. This can happen when the light is absorbed in the skin and breaks up the pigment. The peppering usually lasts about 3-5 days. This will depend on how much sun damage, freckles, and brown spots are in the skin at the time of treatment.  


What do I need to do before my IPL Treatment?

Avoid any sun exporsure at least two (2) weeks before and after treatment IPL treatments. Stop using retinol, retinoids, or exfoliating products. Avoid any facial treatments such as chemical peels, microneedling, Neurotoxins, before your treatment to avoid any complications. 

What do I do after my IPL Treatment?

Keep your face cool and avoid saunas, swimming pools, hot showers. Apply gentle facial cleanser and lotion. We have a post procedure kit that retails for $36 we recommend. Avoid intensive workouts that produce sweat for at least 2 days. Lifting weights and walking is ok. Use sunscreen everyday. If your skins starts to flake, DO NOT PICK. :)
